News, views and Interviews in Spanish for the Spanish speaking community' sAsi es Latino America was born in January 1995 out of the need to feel closed to our culture, and traditions.
Since its creation more than 50 people representing many Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries have participated as volunteers producing, paneling or presenting this radio program.
In 1998 Asi es Latino America was the first Spanish program ever to be nominated for best community access program by the Broadcasting society of New Zealand this was a great event in the life of our program and our community.
At the moment Asi es Latino America is produced and presented by volunteers from Spain , Chile , Argentina , Mexico , Colombia .
Our aim is to keep our audience entertained, informed maintaining our culture, our language and by supporting and promoting our community
In our news slot we keep our audience informed with up to date news from Latin America and the World thanks to and with the approval of the news service BBC Mundo.
During these years we have touch on all kinds of subjects eg: from Wars to Spanglish from Music Festivals to elections. Etc.
We believe we have broadcast the first soap opera in Spanish in New Zealand, ' La Cinta en el Libro" was written, produced and presented by people from our community , volunteers, their families and friends and was so successful the 3 years later we produce our second soap opera.
We also have had the pleasure to interview, in their visit to New Zealand to Isabel Allende, Julio Iglesias, Jose Feliciano, member's of the Chilean Soccer Team, members of the Cuban troupe Bar at the Buena Vista Social Club as well as dozens of other interesting Latin Americans that visit our city like the world known Chilean visual artist Juan Miguel Castillo Diaz that visit New Zealand last August.
